I grew up in the Western Cape Winelands of South Africa and qualified as a vet at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Faculty in 1984. My professional career started as a racetrack vet in the Johannesburg area with a fair share of sport and pleasure horses in the mix. From 2001 to 2011 I worked in the Middle East covering racing, sport and stud horses. A breeding season in each of Turkey and New Zealand was fitted in too. I then joined the Equivet Aus Equine Breeding Centre at Southbrook in 2012 and moved to Darling Downs Vets in 2017 to set up their reproduction section.
This move resulted in me taking on the stud work at Burwood, a position I have grown to enjoy and appreciate ever more as the years go by.
The very practical approach and excellent organisation aided by well-handled horses make the long lists of mares at Burwood feel a lot shorter. It means I can get to the scrumptious morning tea that much sooner!
